The great and serene manatee, hog of the swamp. Not many know that this large mammal is one of several unique mammals that lay eggs instead of live birthing. The large and graceful manatee, during mating season, can be seen in small tepid lagoons, hauling themselves out of the muck to dig burrows near mangrove roots. It is there that they lay their eggs. When the eggs hatch in 3 weeks, they will be nearly fully-grown manatees, in a developmental stage where they are identified as manatee larva.
